“My parents had a piece of land on the east coast of India and their day and night labour income gives just 20000 Rupees a year. My parents are not educated nor they have all luxurious things in the world yet their life was meaningful and happy with family and friends. Until I came along.”Srikanth Bolla
Giving birth to a child is the happiest thing in the world. Yes? At the moment of time the term apple in the eye did not mean much to the couple probably. Never have they been fortunate to see an apple nor their kid have an eye.
Everybody around used to tell that giving birth to a blind is a sin! Nevertheless Srikanth’s parents brought him up with atmost compassion, care and love against all odds. This is why his parents are the richest couple in the world! And Srikanth claims to be the luckiest man.
Here is the story of Srikanth Bolla;
As a child he couldn’t do much, he couldn’t see anything and would just while away his time! His father being brave enough decided that his child should go to school and do something different. There weren’t any schools in his villages however Srikanth all the way used to travel 4-5 kilometres to his school. Being a blind child, this wasn’t easy for him. Anyways he managed to go till there but did absolutely nothing for 2 years. That was because nobody ever acknowledged him because of him being blind. He says
“This was the time in my life I felt I was the poorest kid in the world. Not out of money but because of the loneliness I faced.” It was then that he was taken to the city and was admitted into special school with people of his likeness. This is where he began his career as an outstanding student. Getting all top ranks. Excelling in all his academic subjects and playing chess and cricket for India. Not missing the fact that he was so very fortunate to have worked with Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. He has motivated around 800,000 youth in the youth motivation project! Doing so much yet he couldn’t have much. He couldn’t go to the college he wanted to. Was it because he was blind? No he was made blind by the perception and stigma of people. He applied to all the big colleges and waited for a long time to hear from them back. Then there comes a letter from the college saying “You’re blind you cannot apply”.
For this he bravely stated “When such big colleges do not want me I didn’t want them either.”
Further thinking big, he applied in top schools in the US and got into top 4 school out of which he chose MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology). He went to MIT as the first international blind student. At first he suffered a little but with time he started doing well. He wanted to do more. More not for himself but for people of his kind. He wanted ‘his’ kind of people not out of the society but, be brought into the society.
For all of the employments sake, he built a company with 150 disabled employees, grossing over a million in cells, valued over $8 million. And he still claims, “Today is still day one of growth. There’s a long way and much more to do and go along.” All he asks others to do is show compassion and make people rich, remove lonely from people and thereby remove poverty because loneliness itself is a big poverty.
And finally here’s the introduction of Srikanth Bolla:
Srikanth Bolla is an Indian industrialist and the founder of Bollant Industries. He is the first international blind student in Brain and Cognitive Science and Business at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
