We support the idea that every goal is achievable, once you start working hard enough for it. With that in mind, we decided to prepare a list of best career options for the visually-impaired to provide a little bit of guidance and insight for future.
What can be better than a teaching profession, where you can spread your knowledge to other people and in turn learn something new every day, from your students. We decided to put this on top of the list because of the fact that, teaching is a very respectful job;the kind of unique experience, world-view and perspective a visually-impaired teacher/professor can impart to the students is something very extraordinarily remarkable as compared to anyone else.
Becoming an RJ is another very popular career choice of the visually-impaired youth these days. This is a way by which they can reach out to millions of people and share their experiences, problems, ways of getting motivation etc. in an official way. Audio-medium is very powerful source to spread any kind of information be it educational, entertaining, inspirational or just casual. In the same line of work, you can also be an influencer or a motivational speaker by gaining popularity and the right audience. The idea of “making your voice, your strength” is what makes this a great career choice for the visually-impaired.
The best quality of any differently-abled person is the way they can ‘empathize’ with any other being (humans/animals/plants even!). Counselling is best done by someone who can wholeheartedly understand your needs and feelings, someone who can provide effective emotional support and all these qualities are naturally present in differently-abled people. Theyare also the best motivators, they provide a completely unique outlook for every situation and when these skills will be intermixed with their own stories and experiences, one can be sure to get the best counselling in the world.
Many popular NGOs recruit differently-abled people specifically as their “motivational factor” in order to promote their cause. This not only benefits the organisation but the target audience and ‘you’ as well. You can take advantage of this, because through this career option you will not only get paid but also have the satisfaction of working for the greater good. Through this, you can help the needy, support the main idea of that NGO and get money and “good karma” simultaneously.
A description of the world through the eyes of someone who cannot actually see, but can definitely imagine and visualise, sounds interesting right? That’s why becoming a writer is a great career choice for visually -impaired, through this, you can share your thoughts, struggles and ideas with the whole world. By the profession “writer”, we don’t mean only writing books but writing articles, blogs, professional content etc. The world is curious to “know”, help them “know” through your unmatched creative perception.
These are just a few options to consider, but at the time it is more important to remember that these are not the only choices available. There is a vast array of opportunities available for everyone, so do not limit yourself to anything. There are numerous visually-impaired people gaining success in various fields be it, music, sports, military, science and research, finance or academics etc. It is all achievable, you just need the right amount of dedication and skill set to do it. Don’t forget, there are infinite opportunities, you just have to believe in yourself and work for it.
